NY Metro Area Under Threat of Sandy

So, all the bridges and tunnels are closed, mass transit is kaput, and many have lost power due to the trees downed from high winds.  Sandy will make landfall minutes from now, and we will find out for sure if the storm will be as destructive as the models indicate.  Since I have a break from hosting a storm chaser convention in my living room, I thought I would jump online and share some great resource links for those who are interested, with loads of information and cool video for the weather enthusiast to enjoy:

Scott McPartland of SevereWeatherVideo.com, his twitter handle @scottmcpartland

George Kourounis who can be followed on twitter @georgekourounis

Both chasers are personal friends of mine, and are out in the Long Island area right now.  Kids, even if it gets crazy, if you’ve got your water and your batteries, we’ll make it!  Be smart, be safe, and I think we’ll we’ll be alright!

Truth and Beauty: Romney-Ryan’s Road to Perdition

From Truth and Beauty: Romney-Ryan’s Road to Perdition:  “…it was Republican policies during the Bush administration that brought on the sickness and Republicans in Congress who have denied the economy an adequate dosage of the cure. Now they want to implicitly blame President Obama for causing the recession and the failure of stimulus to fix the problem, asserting that fiscal stimulus is per se ineffective.

There is a word for this: chutzpah.”

Governor Cuomo, Endorsing Republicans?

We need you help get the corporate money out of our elections, and progressive candidates are our best bet!  Below is an email from Joe Seeman, a MoveOn member in Ballston Spa, New York, who created a petition on SignOn.org, the nonprofit site that allows anyone to start their own online petition.

Dear New York MoveOn member,

International Monitors- How Has It Come To This?

You may want to take a look at this email I received from Chris Bowers at Daily Kos, kids.  It contains some unsettling news, and makes me wonder what the international community thinks about the tactics used by Republican and Democratic parties during this election year.

Cecelia,

Republican attempts to reduce voter turnout in minority neighborhoods are so widespread that, at the request of American civil rights groups, international monitors will oversee our elections: Continue reading

American Crystal Sugar and Their Workers

We have to pay attention to the games big corporations play, the way they chip at the American worker’s ability to bargain for decent wages.  I pledged to participate in the boycott outlined below.

Cecelia, please join with Daily Kos and our partners at Workers’ Voice by pledging to boycott American Crystal Sugar products until the company stops locking out its union employees.

Republicans aren’t the only ones trying to seize power by taking advantage of an economic mess they created. Continue reading

Sketchy on Student Debt

Here’s a message from StudentDebtCrisis.org, with a new video on the many positions of Whipsaw Willard on Student Debt and for profit schools. Please enjoy.

Dear Cecelia:

With only two weeks left until Election Day, it is extremely important that voters be made aware of what a Romney/Ryan Administration would mean for higher education. That is why we put together a new video, detailing Romney’s “sketchy” attitudes on the topic.

For those voters who care about making higher education more accessible and affordable, Governor Romney’s rhetoric on the campaign trail with respect to higher education has been shockingly tone-deaf and utterly detached from reality. Continue reading
