Ok, if you are like me, you’ve read the news, and watched your favorite round table discussions on the sequester. You’ve heard everything from panicked predictions of hardship to complete indifference. Well, I have had just about enough of this, since it is not necessary at all. Most people don’t need a doomsday deadline to get them to do their jobs, so why should the legislature?
Congress should just repeal sequestration and get back to work.
If I could communicate with them I would say this: GROW UP!! Stop blaming each other, stop yakking at the news outlet cameras, and posturing in preparation for primary season. Stop serving self interest ahead of your country. For Republicans especially; Get over it, Obama is your President. You have to work with him, quit wasting energy looking for the man’s kryptonite. Fulfill your oath of office, and do what your constituents sent you to to Washington, D.C. to do. Which was govern! That means compromise and negotiation with the other party, not just maintaining purity of ideology. You are duty bound to serve all of your constituents, not just the ones who share your political philosophies. Don’t be another do nothing Congress.
Democrats, you don’t get a pass just because you work with obstructionists. Find a way, get rid of the filibuster, make offers that they cannot refuse. Get the budget passed, the debt under control by balanced spending cuts and tax increases. Please learn a lesson from the European mistakes playing out everyday in the news, let alone the lessons from our prior hard times here at home.
I feel unburdened! But, I doubt any Congress people read this blog. You can still reach out and speak to Congress, however. Representative John Conyers released “The Cancel the Sequester Act of 2013 (HR 900).” It is a simple one sentence bill that, if passed, would completely eliminate the sequester. Please sign this new petition at SignOn.org if you think Congress should cancel the sequester and get back to work too.
