This shutdown is getting everyone down. I wonder exactly who it has to really hurt, or what catastrophe has to happen before the Teaparty screaming memes get off their ideological high horse? Check it out, and join the sane folks in worrying..
Below is an email from Laura Leavitt of the Courage Campaign. Laura started a petition on the MoveOn website, where anyone can start their own online petition.
Dear MoveOn member,
Yesterday, hundreds of thousands of middle-class federal employees were furloughed due to irresponsible members of Congress who refuse to govern for the well-being of the American people.
The GOP-controlled House of Representatives decided to shut down the government rather than pass a spending bill that funds the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as “Obamacare.” Not only has the president’s signature healthcare law been upheld by the Supreme Court, but it was a major issue in the last presidential election when Republicans were soundly defeated.
Wow! I do like me some Ashton. But they can keep the screaming Mimi’s!
His heart was definitely in the right place when he decided to state his insights into fame, media, advertising and what it takes to make a success out of your passion.
I had to share with you, Kids!
My partner emailed this to me and it blew me away. I hope the message got to some of those screaming girls…..don’t you?
Whilst on vacation in Florida, I had an opportunity to see what all the fuss is about shooting and owning these things. I shot off a few rounds…ok, more than a few! Asked some questions, got quite alot of safety training from some experts.
But, I have to admit I’m still mystified. I just don’t have the desire to own one of these bad boys, unless the dead rise from the graves or aliens descend from the skies.
But that’s just me.
It is very easy to forget that our country is still operating under a stupid sequestration. Here’s a handy way to remind ourselves of that sad fact. Check it out: Sequestration Consequences Factsheet
After reading the local political head lines here in New York, I have to wonder if randiness and bad decision making is in the water. It’s a banner year here in the City of New York for Democratic sleaze and sensationalism! 2012 left us with state and local legislators on trial or about to go to jail, or still under investigation on a myriad of charges. But, are we New Yorkers ready to forgive the high profile marital indiscretions of two prominent men?
In a year where the first openly gay Council person, Continue reading
I am still confused on the whole issue. They want to take away benefits from future Social Security recipients to pay for the deficit? Austerity. Again. That has not worked any where else in the world at any time in history. So why chisel our seniors?
Let’s see what the AFL-CIO has to say about it.
Chained CPI. You’ve heard about it. It’s a flawed way to calculate yearly cost-of-living increases for Social Security. And it has real consequences for seniors, veterans and people with disabilities. It means our country’s budget would be balanced on the backs of the most vulnerable Americans because it would cut Social Security.
You’ve been fighting with us to stop this from happening. In April, you—and more than 1 million others—signed a petition that we and other groups fighting to stop these cuts delivered directly to the White House. We asked President Obama to drop chained CPI and oppose any other cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
But we need to keep the pressure on. Right now, there are resolutions in both the House and the Senate to oppose these cuts—and your lawmakers already have signed on.
I received this message from Credo Action a while ago, but I felt it merited discussion, because it once again highlights our government’s greater concern for the business world, rather than the health of Americans. This is doubly galling, because the very corporations that are poisoning us, refuse to pay taxes on the huge profits they rake in.
