MOC Aerial Video of Arkansas Oil Spill

Did you know there was another oilspill, this time on the much lauded Canadian oil sands pipeline?  Kind of like the Keystone thingy the president is being pressured to fast track.  Yeah.  You heard maybe a mention yesterday.  And now, silence.  Well.

Judging by the lack of reporting in traditional media, you’d hardly know that this is happening in Arkansas:

Tattooed Angel

This clip is really amazing because it highlights something rarely talked about these days, which is acting to correct harm done by others against our fellow Americans.

I was delighted to hear the story of how these two very different young men from Roanoke, Virginia met and interacted in a touching and heartwarming way.
I already knew that some angels have tattoos.

Good on Ellen DeGeneres and Covergirl for helping out two wonderful people.

Brides for Inhuman Grooms

Can you believe the Citizens United ruling has been over a year ago? Some very industrious gals have been thinking a lot about that. ‘In fact, very deeply, as evidenced by this very interesting video by Dennis Trainor, Jr.  profiling the brides of corporations, symbolically marrying their super rich, newly vested with ‘personhood‘ grooms.
Of course, the brides accessorized with plenty of green!

I wonder why the corporate gender is assumed to be male?

Robert Reich On Why Raising The Minimum Wage Is One Of The Smartest Things We Can Do | MoveOn.Org

It would help us all, if all were paid a fairer wage.  Poorer people put most of their money right back into the economy.  When they make more, they consume more products and services.  They need less support from tax payers.  It’s very simple, when you think about it.  Only the very rich seem to object.  How often will we, as a nation, ignore the right and fair policy to follow, just to benefit a privileged few?  The same tendency to appease and ease the way of the rich and powerful is illustrated in so many great injustices and pushes to go to war through out our young country’s history.  I’d like to see America break the stranglehold business interests have on national policies, just once. The Porn Effect, Explained

Gosh, I love the TedxTalks, as you can tell by how often I share video that interests me from that source.   I also find the pervasive way porn has invaded almost every aspect of media and entertainment with its influence really fascinating, and at times, quite disturbing.  I’ve always wondered how the younger generations are shaped by the mainstreaming of erotic films, and whether the easy access has hurt their sexual health.

pornaddictAs it turns out, the theory that porn in unlimited amounts has had some affect on the male youth of the nation.

For Profit

Robert Applebaum, StudentDebtCrisis.org sent me an email you may find of interest if you are in the area of Wooster College, and you like plays and activism.

Dear Cecelia:

Something exciting is happening at the College of Wooster in Ohio. The administration said no, but the students said Yes!

Despite trying to put a halt to a creative event taking on the issue of student debt, some really brave students took on the administration at the College of Wooster and are hosting this performance anyway!

They will host FOR PROFIT, an innovative solo-play that takes on the $1 TRILLION student debt crisis and proprietary education by StudentDebtCrisis Co-Founder & Artistic Director, Aaron Calafato. Continue reading

Illegally Fired For Speaking Out

Cablevision/Optimum illegally fired La’kesia Johnson, a Cablevision technician, along with 22 others.

How do I know that?  Because she told me so.  I often share my better items I get in my inbox here, and this one deserves to be included:

Below is an email from La’kesia Johnson, a Cablevision technician who worked with the Communication Workers of America to create a petition on SignOn.org, the nonprofit site that allows anyone to start their own online petition. If you have concerns or feedback about this petition, click here.

Dear MoveOn member,

I got fired just for speaking my mind about my working conditions. That’s not just wrong, it’s illegal.

I’ve worked as a Cablevision/Optimum technician for more than 6 years. A year ago, my coworkers and I voted to form a union, so we could have a voice on the job. But a year has come and gone, and Cablevision/Optimum management hasn’t negotiated in good faith for a contract.  Continue reading
