Despite the fact the United States is Israel’s main donor of financial and military aid, aspersions are cast on President Barack Obama, calling him anti-Semitic. What more can our government do, to show support? Since 1985, the United States has handed over nearly $3 billion in yearly grants to Israel, with Israel being the largest annual recipient of American aid from 1976 to 2004 and the largest cumulative recipient of aid since World War II. Strong congressional support for Israel has resulted in Israel’s receiving benefits not available to other countries. During the Obama administration, almost all of that aid is in the form of arms and munition ( ‘loans’ with which Israel purchases military equipment), instead of the economic assistance Israel received in years past, to the tune of $3 billion in 2011. And yet, when Vice President Joe Biden visits in the spring of 2010, 1,600 new settlements are announced in that hotly contested area in East Jerusalem. Kinda seems like deliberately throwing a spanner in the peace talks with Palestine, right? The announcement was called ‘confusing’, ‘insulting’ and ‘unfortunate’ by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, I think she forgot ‘ungrateful’, given the economic suffering of the American people in recent years. However, current election speeches indicate our support and aid will be unwavering. Not an incentive to make peace, is it?

Israel is like a beautiful, headstrong, sexy woman that America just can’t quit…we spend a ton of money on her, yet she does what she wants, runs around on us with China, and talks smack when we complain, or appear to falter in our affection, all with the world watching and judging.
