We need you help get the corporate money out of our elections, and progressive candidates are our best bet! Below is an email from Joe Seeman, a MoveOn member in Ballston Spa, New York, who created a petition on SignOn.org, the nonprofit site that allows anyone to start their own online petition.
Dear New York MoveOn member,
Currently, Republicans hold a narrow majority in the New York State Senate, and we have a real chance of seeing Democrats win control in this election.
There are huge issues hanging in the balance. So why is Gov. Cuomo talking about endorsing Republicans, including some who oppose fair elections?
In crucial races that will determine control of the Senate, Gov. Cuomo has been silent.

One huge issue that will be determined by the outcome of these races is Gov. Cuomo’s own proposal for public financing of campaigns. This “Fair Elections” plan would give New York an opportunity to take a stand against Citizens United and make sure every voice is heard, not just billionaires and corporate special interests.
But to win real change in our broken political system, we need a legislature that supports the Fair Elections plan. The Assembly already does. We just need to “flip” the Senate from Republican to Democratic control.
George Latimer in Westchester, Cece Tkaczyk in the Hudson valley, and Ted O’Brien in Rochester are all progressive Democrats running in competitive, open-seat Senate races who support the Fair Elections plan. They can win, but they need with Gov. Cuomo’s support.

Thanks!
