In addition to reading several newspapers, watching my MSNBC, ABC Nightly News, CNN, and radio programs, I read the posts from fellow bloggers, follow the feeds in Twitter and Facebook just like everyone else during the course of the day. It has become apparent, that not very many people who express opinions in the public sphere remotely have any idea of what they are discussing! I am dismayed to see the increasing propagation of misinformation on these handy dandy social interacting sites we all love. Sometimes it is just laziness and stupidity in action, but often, it is sheer maliciousness in a lot of cases. Case in point, the filth being posted online about Sandra Fluke, actual “quotes” attributed to her, which are outright false, since talk show host Rush Limbaugh decided that by speaking before Congress and standing up for the reproductive rights of her fellow Georgetown University class women warranted his chauvinist, slanderous, (and oddly ignorant of how birth control pills actually work) rant against her personal sexual reputation and habits. Even after his subsequent half-assed apology, a pointless debate still wages on the net regarding whether we the taxpayer, should have to pay for birth control pills because college girls want to have sex, and lots of it. Never mind that the insurance coverage discussed in this case is paid for solely by the student, not the taxpayer, or even the university. It is clear, the damage is already done to Sandra Fluke’s reputation, as evidenced by the widespread acceptance as truth, of a former prescription pill popper’s allegations on a nationally syndicated radio show. And the ridiculousness does not stop there. Folks are also going further, by opining that women should know that they should not expect to be able to access reproductive healthcare if they choose to work or attend school at a religious institution, and should just shut up or go elsewhere. I have decided to post a link to the video of the actual C-SPAN hearing Ms. Fluke testified at, as well as a link to the transcript, to try to counter act this. Please share with anyone you see spreading lies about this particular topic, because what is true matters.
