That’s a damned good question, one we tend to think about alot if watching the old waistline. As someone who spends a lot of time at a gym, and a lot of money on healthy organic foods, I thought this may be of interest. Enjoy!
I am still confused on the whole issue. They want to take away benefits from future Social Security recipients to pay for the deficit? Austerity. Again. That has not worked any where else in the world at any time in history. So why chisel our seniors?
Let’s see what the AFL-CIO has to say about it.
Chained CPI. You’ve heard about it. It’s a flawed way to calculate yearly cost-of-living increases for Social Security. And it has real consequences for seniors, veterans and people with disabilities. It means our country’s budget would be balanced on the backs of the most vulnerable Americans because it would cut Social Security.
You’ve been fighting with us to stop this from happening. In April, you—and more than 1 million others—signed a petition that we and other groups fighting to stop these cuts delivered directly to the White House. We asked President Obama to drop chained CPI and oppose any other cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
But we need to keep the pressure on. Right now, there are resolutions in both the House and the Senate to oppose these cuts—and your lawmakers already have signed on.
Can and will President O keep his promise to work toward improving our environment? No extra filthy piped in tar sands oil would be a start…I for one don’t want tar sands oil winding up in MY water supply! The accident record for pipelines in general is horrendous!
Judging by the recent rash of scandals and examples of ineptitude, I am not so sure we can count on Obama to stop anything, let alone KXL. But, I know we have to try. Please check out the latest petitions from Credo Action, if you are keeping your hope alive.
It’s never been more urgent to hold President Obama to his words: “If Congress won’t act soon to protect future generations, I will.”
That’s why we were arrested yesterday, along with 20 committed everyday activists, sitting-in at the State Department in the President’s home city.1 Continue reading
Often, these unregulated shortcuts to skinny are dangerous to your health. The only way to a beautiful body is a healthy diet and exercise program. No magic pill is going to magically transform a fat body to a thin one, and sometimes even these ‘supplements’ can cause major health problems. See for your selves: Diet products contain dangerous drugs, FDA warns – NBC News.com.
I received this message from Credo Action a while ago, but I felt it merited discussion, because it once again highlights our government’s greater concern for the business world, rather than the health of Americans. This is doubly galling, because the very corporations that are poisoning us, refuse to pay taxes on the huge profits they rake in.
Well, this ought to be interesting….Medical marijuana in the Nation’s capital!
Kids, I think we should check it out: http://www.utne.com/medicinal-marijuana-comes-to-washington-dc.aspx#axzz2WqQjrkKd
Once again, La Warren isn’t afraid to do what she sees as right. In a year of ups, downs and stunning disappointments, she is as feisty as we hoped she would be, even standing up to our President. Read what landed in my inbox recently.
Cecelia, Sen. Elizabeth Warren is standing up to the Obama administration and the U.S. Trade Representative’s office—demanding they release trade documents used as part of negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership. It seems like a lifetime ago when gay service men and women were singled out for persecution in the military, and/or forced to live a lie to keep their jobs. Now that the world, and some of the folks who are in charge have evolved, even our President, we should wonder; What happens to the servicemen and women who got screwed over under “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’?
Cecelia, over 100,000 military service members were discharged under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” because they were gay. Many of those discharges were dishonorable or other than honorable. Please join Daily Kos and the DCCC in urging Congress to pass the Restore Honor to Service Members Act, which would restore honorable status to the thousands of Americans who were discharged because of their sexual orientation.
A dishonorable discharge can have a huge effect on a person’s life. Continue reading
