Governor Phil Bryant Against Reproductive Freedom

You know kids, for gaggle of politicians who claim that government is too big, and invading on state and local freedoms of American citizens, they sure do love preventing women from making decisions about their own bodies and destinies.  Check out the latest message from Draw The Line, and throw some support if you can.

Governor Phil Bryant and his cronies are on a crusade to make Mississippi “abortion free”—but they will not go unchallenged.Tell Gov. Bryant that his politics are hurting the health, safety, and rights of Mississippi women.

 Take Action

Dear Cecelia,

Some lawmakers like to pretend that they’re “protecting women’s health” when they endorse laws curbing reproductive rights.

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant is not one of them. Instead, his fervor for an “abortion free” state is clearly on the record.

Take Action: Tell Gov. Bryant that his politics threaten the health, safety, and rights of Mississippi women. Continue reading

This Is My Body

This video is so very powerful. The monologue performed is concise, plain, and easy to understand, but packs the punch that basic truths often do. Please share it freely, as the people who created this, did so with that goal in mind.

In fact, one creators said this on his Youtube channel: Views = Power, so please share, tweet, email and spread this video! Ask your friends and family to do the same and if you have a favorite women’s group or political organization, share it with them too!

Global War on Women

You remember the underlying theme of the abortion obsessed GOP this past election cycle?  You know, the same tired anti woman crap that resulted in less Republicans in Congress and the Senate?  Well, you should know, that same sort of anti woman world view affects women adversely, all over the world.

Government policies in many countries across the globe deny women their basic rights.  Women jailed for having the gall to try to control their bodies, for not choosing to give birth.   Women held hostage for the crime of giving birth while poor.  Women and children treated worse than unwanted animals. GOP Rape Advisory Chart

The hits in the War on Women just keep on coming, so much misinformation and flat out misogyny in the men who are vying to win office in our country right now!!  I’ve been seeing this chart all over the internet, and so thought I should share this email with you, kids, for educational purposes.  Enjoy!

Cecelia, Republicans have introduced so many new types of rape recently—legitimate rape, honest rape, emergency rape, forcible rape, gift-from-God rape—that it’s getting difficult to keep track of them all. Continue reading

Utah – A Great Place to Have an Abortion

Women are finding it harder to get health care services that they need. It’s just so confusing, abortion nearly banned in one state, or you can access the procedure, but you have to let a doctor try to talk you out of it in others, or (my favorite) some states want to probe you, take ultrasound pictures, and discuss the procedure with you while looking at the images. Challenges, media, conversation with a concerned professional…..What’s not to enjoy?

Well, there is even better news for the outdoorsy gals that enjoy good wholesome fun, natural beauty, camping, and tons of time to think about choices.   Continue reading

Separation of Church and State: It’s Not Just a Suggestion

If you are like me, you have had enough of all this crying and gnashing of teeth, all about religious freedom, particularly when it concerns women’s bodies.  I am not in the least religious, so it seems the height of ridiculousness to be expected to conform, in my personal life, to the standards and preferences of the faithful.  Why should I refrain from my pursuit of happiness to satisfy someone else’s religious doctrine?  Continue reading

Tell Rep. Akin: Resign over your shameful, ignorant, and dangerous rape comments.

Below is an email from Kat Barr of the organization UltraViolet. Kat created a petition on SignOn.org, the nonprofit site that allows anyone to start their own online petition.

Dear MoveOn Member,

Victims of “legitimate rape” can’t get pregnant because a woman’s body will shut down and prevent the pregnancy. Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) actually said that—in other words, he’s saying that if a woman does get pregnant, she must not have been raped. Even scarier? He’s running—and leading—in the race for Missouri’s senate seat. Continue reading

Todd Akin, Misinformed on Abortion

Missouri Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin (R) said: “From what I understand from doctors … if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”   Proving he’s not that media savvy, sensitive, or even that bright, Todd Akin’s controversial comments about “legitimate rape,” have gotten him in hot water, with the GOP pulling his funding for a Senate race.   Good news for Missouri’s women!  I find, after reviewing his idiotic assertion on rape, I can’t express my rage without swearing!  I have posted a link instead to Malia Litman’s blog for her unique take on Monday’s comments.  “NO” Means “Yes” If You are Todd Akin « Malia Litman’s Blog.
