Just what are the minimum requirements to be fit to serve in public office? I really have to wonder these days. Aside from the blatantly criminal behavior evidenced by the boys and girls serving up in Albany, NY that is…..those jerks have really brought the bar down low, and it just seems politicians are getting less intelligent. Governors leaving office because of sex scandals, jump immediately to mind. Shouldn’t one have their personal life in order before they dare presume to order our public lives?

Consider the national Congress and Senate shenanigans, during speeches and on the Sunday shows, and you could make a case for the decline of American politics indeed. Some of the most stupid, harebrained, and racist comments are not made by some loopy blogger in an obscure location; they’ve been uttered by those already holding public office, and usually seeking a higher office. Save The Postal Service, Save American Jobs

The United States Postal Service is the finest, most reliable postal service in the world Everyone knows this, and the fact that we can send a letter to any place in the United States to any other place for forty-six cents is frankly amazing. I appreciate the ease with which I can ship packages all over the country with a minimum of fuss or trouble, and the certainty that my numerous internet purchases will make it to my door safely. The USPS workers are our friends and neighbors; it is and always will be a large part of the fabric of American life and business. So why all the fighting over the state of the USPS on the House floor?

It seems some in the Conservative crowd have a vendetta against the post office that we all know and love. And they have manufactured a crisis designed to destroy the post office. Correct me if I am way off base, but aren’t we guaranteed a Postal Service in our Constitution? And aren’t most retirees unlikely to live seventy five years past retiring, let alone all? Why was the United States Postal Service saddled with that stupid rule rather than businesses in the private sector? Just when you think we have hit the bar on ridiculousness, you learn about Stella Tremblay. Check it out.

New Hampshire state Rep. Stella Tremblay (R-Auburn) believes that Alex Jones’ website Infowars has revealed the truth behind the Boston Marathon bombings.

The New Hampshire Democratic Party on Tuesday highlighted a Facebook message Tremblay left on Glenn Beck’s fan page last Friday. The message claimed the U.S. government secretly carried out the Boston attack and that the suspect who was arrested was merely a patsy. The post linked to an Alex Jones video.

She wrote: “Just as you said would happen. Top Down, Bottom UP. The Boston Marathon was a Black Ops ‘terrorist’ attack. One suspect killed, the other one will be too before they even have a chance to speak. Drones and now ‘terrorist’ attacks by our own Government.” (source) Continue reading →

Fiscal Cliff: Crisis Delayed

So, most of us were relieved that there was news of a compromise reached in Washington, that a bandage was slapped on to the mess our nation’s finances are in.

For most of the United States, 2012 has been a difficult and challenging year, replete with extreme weather phenomena, tragic losses of life, and one of the most polarizing elections of modern times, so I understand why the average American just wants to move on. We are weary. We’ve all had enough uncertainty, we need to be able to spend without worrying as much for awhile. Our economy depends on it.

The new legislation keeps the Bush era tax cuts for persons making less than $400,000 and couples making less that $450,000. It also makes permanent the fixes for the Alternative Minimum Tax and delays government spending cuts for two months. Continue reading →

I found this article a few days ago on the interwebs, and I really wondered at the disconnect between the homophobic hate peddled by Tony Perkins, and the love and tolerance that Christians claim is found in their religion and its practitioners. Which is exactly the reason to not stop applying pressure, even if the election is over! Not as fun as the “kick Grover Norquist in the dick” petition, but I think its well worth signing! The Agony and the Ecstasy of President Obama’s New Term

I woke this morning to the good news. President Obama had one a hard fought, long battle to stay in the White House for four more years. I cannot stay up late, I have to man my post at work very early, so the news came as a pleasant start to my day.

As someone who believes in good sportsmanship, I refrained from crowing my pleasure, only giving in to one positive tweet:

After all the ups and downs, dog-whistles, and ridiculousness of the GOP Primary, and horribly divisive Romney campaign filled with fact averse statements, and the most pumped up media coverage of a presidential race to date, America chose to stay the course. Continue reading →
