America Gets More Awesome With Each Era

We seem to have had a lot of air time devoted to people who long to “get their country back” during the last presidential cycle didn’t we?  I’m forty, and I disagree heartily, just judging by my current living standard and freedoms as a woman of modest means, and comparing that to those of past eras.

The time most longed for appears to be the 1950′s era.  They seem to forget all about the uptight attitudes and the world’s tense politics in the grip of the Cold War.  Maybe the pleasures of the bomb drills are what they miss so much.

Global War on Women

You remember the underlying theme of the abortion obsessed GOP this past election cycle?  You know, the same tired anti woman crap that resulted in less Republicans in Congress and the Senate?  Well, you should know, that same sort of anti woman world view affects women adversely, all over the world.

Government policies in many countries across the globe deny women their basic rights.  Women jailed for having the gall to try to control their bodies, for not choosing to give birth.   Women held hostage for the crime of giving birth while poor.  Women and children treated worse than unwanted animals. Separation of Church and State: It’s Not Just a Suggestion

If you are like me, you have had enough of all this crying and gnashing of teeth, all about religious freedom, particularly when it concerns women’s bodies.  I am not in the least religious, so it seems the height of ridiculousness to be expected to conform, in my personal life, to the standards and preferences of the faithful.  Why should I refrain from my pursuit of happiness to satisfy someone else’s religious doctrine?  Continue reading

Todd Akin, Misinformed on Abortion

Missouri Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin (R) said: “From what I understand from doctors … if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”   Proving he’s not that media savvy, sensitive, or even that bright, Todd Akin’s controversial comments about “legitimate rape,” have gotten him in hot water, with the GOP pulling his funding for a Senate race.   Good news for Missouri’s women!  I find, after reviewing his idiotic assertion on rape, I can’t express my rage without swearing!  I have posted a link instead to Malia Litman’s blog for her unique take on Monday’s comments.  “NO” Means “Yes” If You are Todd Akin « Malia Litman’s Blog.

August 18th, 1920–Women’s Suffrage ratified

August 18th, 1920–Women’s Suffrage ratified 92 years ago today! Please take a moment to reflect on the years long struggles the women of 1920 went through to garner this sacred right that we enjoy today.  Imagine what life would be like without full citizenship.  Then imagine the joy the Suffragettes felt as their dream came to pass.  Please resolve to not allow any political group to push women back from any hard won rights to live our lives in pursuit of OUR happiness and liberty. Working Families Party

Working Families Party is a neat little Progressive page for those of us in New York, and other states, that think it really sucks that people work hard for forty hours a week, and yet have no health insurance, sick pay or vacation time.  Working families can’t afford their own lobbyists, so it is nice to something on the internet that represents them.  Continue reading

MI Rep. Lisa Brown blocked from speaking- for uttering ‘vagina’

Lisa Brown of Michigan gave a passionate speech regarding a proposed abortion ban on Wednesday. “I have not asked you to adopt and adhere to my religious beliefs. Why are you asking me to adopt yours?” she said. But her next statement is what got her in trouble, when she said the dreaded v-word: “And finally, Mr. Speaker, I’m flattered that you’re all so interested my vagina, but ‘no’ means ‘no.’”

Mommygate and Decision 2012

2012 has been a bumper year for media nourished female feuds with Democratic and Republican women sounding off on many issues.  But, I wish there would be much more coverage of the push-back from average women not willing to let the state or federal government infringe on our constitutional rights by assigning person hood Bills of Rights to fetuses.  Continue reading
