Record corporate profits in 2011 indicate that it is high time our nation takes stock of what is really happening in our economy. The recovery from our financial crisis of 2008 is still slowly progressing, while we see quoted nightly that Wall Street, Big Oil and the Financial sector have been reaping fantastic profits for the past few years. Evidently, capitalism is healthy once more, due to the $700 billion bailout known as TARP, socialist solution that served to prevent a financial collapse, according to top economists. The current political theme these days, is that less government interference in daily life(especially in the business world) is a more desirable way to live–a pronouncement often delivered by so called men of faith. I respectfully disagree to the notion of a smaller government, because it won’t work for us. Just look at the financial mess our country is in, directly linked to the loosening of regulations in the last thirty years. The freedoms and security we enjoy are supported and maintained by the federal government, in turn supported by the taxes we pay. What confuses me, is the power the religious factions wield over policy made by our government, in this election cycle. Continue reading
