This has to be the most fact allergic gaggle of Republicans ever. Like many other Americans, I can only bring myself to watch the RNC television coverage in bits. Continue reading

A less heinous task for a super PAC
You may have noticed this past year, an unprecedented wave of legislation devoted to voting restrictions which appear aimed at keeping a whole demographic from voting. Oh, lord, save us from the scourge of voter fraud! For many Americans come upon hard times, the choice between paying for a photo ID so they can vote, or spending that $25 or more on a more immediate concern like food, would be no choice at all. Continue reading
Austerity, no thanks!
Martin Bashir made a powerful point on his show tonight; How it’s ironic that GOP candidates who sneer at President Obama for following supposed European policies, when they are the ones proposing monster cuts to entitlement programs that are just austerity measures for Americans. Watch the news folks, the cuts in European countries are just making their economies worse. Spain for example, has wound up with crippling unemployment figures, the highest in 15 years! Fact is, poor and working class folks put every cent they earn back into the economy, and scaring them into hoarding what little resources they have hurts it. Big cuts in social programs to reduce the deficit….Sounds good to the conservative on the campaign trail, but common sense says it is not going to go over well with retirees on Medicare when push comes to shove.
Deficit Debt Dance
In light of his recent success after his snow dancing ceremony in Vail, Colorado, perhaps Ed Boxer, Jr. could see fit to perform his magic dance in front of the US Treasury, maybe intercede with the money gods to bring prosperity to Americans. My idea is no more silly than thinking absurd tax cuts for billionaires leads to job creation and growing the economy, or that the old trickle down economic experiment would benefit the little guy. Just saying.
From Birther to Decliner
In the hours since President Barack Obama made his State of the Union address many great minds have been analyzing the president’s words line by line, trying to predict the tone and tactics he will employ in his 2012 campaign. The speech leaves much to consider. Not to mention the Republican response televised right after, delivered by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, which I thought started out admirably. Continue reading
No Country Left behind…Right.
It seems to me, the same old tired social issues that pop up during elections are harmful to our country in a number of ways. While we are busy wrestling with abortion rights (permitted in over 60% of the world), gay rights, and the right to have access to affordable healthcare(or lack thereof), our legislature should be tackling the current pressing issues. Issues like the corporate practice of patenting DNA of plant and animal lifeforms. Corporate ownership, particularly of human DNA, could cause all kinds of havoc, the least of which would be the increased cost of medical testing. Continue reading
Ron Paul, worth a second look
Increasingly, main stream media has ignored Congressman Ron Paul as a serious candidate for the GOP nomination, often labeling the Congressman as “unelectable” in favor of Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich. I have to disagree for the following reasons: Continue reading
Decision 2012 Voter, educate thyself
I like to chat with friends and acquaintances about current events and the state of the upcoming elections, particularly the GOP primary splashed all over the papers and the news every day. It’s come to my attention that most of my fellow Americans find the whole GOP caucus process mystifying. I recently heard a 73 year old man ask his daughter, ‘What is a caucus, anyway?’. While my knee-jerk answer is to say that is where the King of the Grinchies is picked, that would wrong! Funny, yes. But still wrong. Continue reading
