Anita Sarkeesian, a feminist pop culture media critic (who produces an ongoing web series of video commentaries from a feminist/fangirl perspective), spoke recently at TEDxWomen about her simple project studying female characters in video games, and the chaos that ensued from game boys afraid that their games would change. The misogynistic comments and threats she received were so disturbing, and I am sure doubly hurtful to someone who had loved industry and been into gaming for so long. Especially since many were grown men, without youth as an excuse for stupidity. Continue reading

Ann Romney, First Lady of the GOP
I was thinking of all the actors on the stage of Decision 2012, including the wives of the presidential and vice presidential nominees in the aftermath of President Obama’s victory.
Ann Romney immediately springs to mind as one of the powerful tools in the Romney/Ryan tool box. She is attractive, well spoken, aristocratic, by all accounts an excellent mother. Her battle with Multiple Sclerosis, her dressage therapy, and unwavering support of her husband has made her a media darling.
The Agony and the Ecstasy of President Obama’s New Term
I woke this morning to the good news. President Obama had one a hard fought, long battle to stay in the White House for four more years. I cannot stay up late, I have to man my post at work very early, so the news came as a pleasant start to my day.
As someone who believes in good sportsmanship, I refrained from crowing my pleasure, only giving in to one positive tweet:
ceceliamorgan Woke up to my preferred president! Color me optimistic!
After all the ups and downs, dog-whistles, and ridiculousness of the GOP Primary, and horribly divisive Romney campaign filled with fact averse statements, and the most pumped up media coverage of a presidential race to date, America chose to stay the course. Continue reading
Mrs. Trump Creates Jobs, Just For The Chinese
Since the recession really deepened, I make an effort to buy American products when I can, and I make it my business to check where the item I am considering is made. I was browsing QVC today (don’t Judge me!), and I came across this link: Melania Timepieces & Fashion Jewelry — Jewelry—QVC.com.
Remember that fellow that expressed interest in running for President of these United States? You know, that fellow who has been questioning our current President, Barack Obama’s status as an American citizen, accusing him of failure and deceit at every opportunity (when not feuding with other “celebrities” in the press)? Continue reading
6 Insane Conspiracy Theories That Actually Happened
After being genuinely horrified by the persistent 9/11/2001 terror attack conspiracy theories of a few acquaintances of mine, I should be inured to all the new and ridiculous conspiracy theories surrounding recent events. And yet I am at a loss to understand all of the crackpot scenarios some people publicly put out there. They can’t all be schizophrenic, can they? Continue reading
Calling Senior voters with common sense
Dear Senior voter,
Many Americans a mite younger than you have always looked to your example when making important decisions, like choosing a president. As someone who spent a good portion of her youth working in nursing homes, caring for the elderly, I know for a fact that older Americans are a veritable treasure trove of knowledge and history. So will you please stop losing your damn minds over the same stale, old, wedge issues trotted out at election time: abortion, contraception and gay marriage! Continue reading
Democratic Party, speak up on women’s issues!
They say we get the government we deserve, but this is ridiculous! Decision 2012 has been a polarizing year for politics, with the long battle for the Republican nomination dominating the American media. The Supreme Court has allowed those with enough money to run their own campaigns for the candidate of their choice, and you know that is going to have heinous repercussions. Continue reading
GOP pandering to the right will cost women voters
Women still constitute over half of the US population. And we do vote. So, when you consider the flurry of ‘Personhood’ bills popping up in southern states, coupled with all the Pro-life rhetoric disguised as conservatism spouted by GOP candidates, one has to wonder….. Continue reading
