I am still confused on the whole issue. They want to take away benefits from future Social Security recipients to pay for the deficit? Austerity. Again. That has not worked any where else in the world at any time in history. So why chisel our seniors?
Let’s see what the AFL-CIO has to say about it.
Chained CPI. You’ve heard about it. It’s a flawed way to calculate yearly cost-of-living increases for Social Security. And it has real consequences for seniors, veterans and people with disabilities. It means our country’s budget would be balanced on the backs of the most vulnerable Americans because it would cut Social Security.
You’ve been fighting with us to stop this from happening. In April, you—and more than 1 million others—signed a petition that we and other groups fighting to stop these cuts delivered directly to the White House. We asked President Obama to drop chained CPI and oppose any other cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
But we need to keep the pressure on. Right now, there are resolutions in both the House and the Senate to oppose these cuts—and your lawmakers already have signed on.
Just what are the minimum requirements to be fit to serve in public office? I really have to wonder these days. Aside from the blatantly criminal behavior evidenced by the boys and girls serving up in Albany, NY that is…..those jerks have really brought the bar down low, and it just seems politicians are getting less intelligent. Governors leaving office because of sex scandals, jump immediately to mind. Shouldn’t one have their personal life in order before they dare presume to order our public lives?
Consider the national Congress and Senate shenanigans, during speeches and on the Sunday shows, and you could make a case for the decline of American politics indeed. Some of the most stupid, harebrained, and racist comments are not made by some loopy blogger in an obscure location; they’ve been uttered by those already holding public office, and usually seeking a higher office. I even wonder if politicians should be tested for mental illness. Continue reading →
In the longest October ever recorded, or at least it seems that way, our attention is drawn to the antics of a Vice Presidential candidate who thinks very little of our intelligence….or just thinks very little….. Continue reading →
These kinds of emails are very informative as we move closer to election day. Amidst much speculation about the “undecided” voter, and the impact of early voting on the election, we have to admit, the debates are going to be tasty icing on the political cake.
The folks at MoveOn have been hard at work, but they need more help. Learn more from the latest, rather mysterious update from our friends at MoveON.org.
Dear MoveOn member,
I think we may have just discovered the silver bullet that could help us win the whole election. Continue reading →
I think every sane woman in the USA was gobsmacked by the insane comments that Rep. Todd Akin made regarding the female supernatural way of shutting down procreation in cases of “legitimate” rape. And most of us know by now, that the Republican nominee for Vice President Paul Ryan, has declined to explain what is meant by “forcible rape” in abortion legislation he co-sponsored with embattled Rep. Todd Akin. The GOP writing is on the wall, so, what’s a gal to do? Continue reading →
Protests, rallies, and rhetoric designed to kill unions whose workers make this country livable, painting teachers, firemen, police, city workers as part of the reason America has a huge deficit: You could say there has been an inordinate amount of deficit drama since President Obama took office. Which came as a shock to those of us who remember former Vice President Dick Cheney saying “deficits don’t matter” during the Bush administration! Continue reading →
Below is an email from Brenda Witt, a MoveOn member who created a petition on SignOn.org, the nonprofit site that allows anyone to start their own online petition.
Last night, Paul Ryan lied to the American people. Add your name to my SignOn.org petition demanding that the mainstream media expose the truth.
“Mainstream media: Fact-check and call out candidates when they lie. You have an obligation as journalists to educate the public on the facts of the major campaign issues.”Sign the Petition!Continue reading →
Right now, not enough voters know about the 1 million job losses we’re facing under Romney-Ryan. Some will let the negative campaign ads delude them into voting out of frustration. Some will stay at home on election day out of despair. Both actions have an outcome that helps the extremely wealthy and hurts everyone else in the years to come. Continue reading →
