Todd Akin, Misinformed on Abortion

Missouri Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin (R) said: “From what I understand from doctors … if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”   Proving he’s not that media savvy, sensitive, or even that bright, Todd Akin’s controversial comments about “legitimate rape,” have gotten him in hot water, with the GOP pulling his funding for a Senate race.   Good news for Missouri’s women!  I find, after reviewing his idiotic assertion on rape, I can’t express my rage without swearing!  I have posted a link instead to Malia Litman’s blog for her unique take on Monday’s comments.  “NO” Means “Yes” If You are Todd Akin « Malia Litman’s Blog.

MI Rep. Lisa Brown blocked from speaking- for uttering ‘vagina’

Lisa Brown of Michigan gave a passionate speech regarding a proposed abortion ban on Wednesday. “I have not asked you to adopt and adhere to my religious beliefs. Why are you asking me to adopt yours?” she said. But her next statement is what got her in trouble, when she said the dreaded v-word: “And finally, Mr. Speaker, I’m flattered that you’re all so interested my vagina, but ‘no’ means ‘no.’”

The New Republican Woman’s Plea

I was just thinking about all the states that have taken advantage of the Republican sweep of state house and senate seats in 2010, to try to ban abortion, contraception, and take away personal choice.   Normally, I would have some very specific comments that would decry these new ‘personhood’ laws, and trans-vaginal probes as unconstitutional and heinously evil.  But, I have noted that somehow, against all reason and logic, there are American women who are completely down with the ban on female control of their own bodies. North Carolina bans same-sex marriage

Let me get this straight; The same group of folks who say they want smaller government,  and are against nanny state policies and government interference in THEIR lives, are going to dictate who can marry who in their state’s constitution.  Well, who can be surprised, when the religious right controlled GOP also claims dominion over women’s reproductive rights, and the 2012 trend of violating the American citizen’s constitutional right to pursue happiness just continues.  Continue reading

Secret Service Shenanigans Show How Americans Refuse to Grow Up

When you think of the Secret Service, you think of serious black suited men.  You think of the complex investigations into counterfeiting rings that the Secret Service conducts to protect our currency.  Men willing and capable of protecting the President of the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic come to mind.  Highly trained men willing to take a bullet for those in their safekeeping.  You’d never guess they would fall prey to this petite threat from Colombia during President Obama’s visit:

Eleven Secret Service agents were eventually sent home in disgrace from Cartagena on Colombia’s Caribbean coast after a wild night of partying that saw many of the agents bring escorts back to their rooms, according to reports.  Continue reading

Affordable Healthcare Act cases weaker than before

Did you know there are several cases in civil court throughout the country filed by concerned citizens citing the Affordable Healthcare Act, dubbed Obama-care as a jab at President Barack Obama by the GOP, as unconstitutional?  Continue reading

Rush Limbaugh, what will it take?

Certainly not the slander of an American citizen’s reputation, apparently!  Rush Limbaugh, estimated worth $300 million, has built his radio career by making incendiary and hateful statements interspersed with conservative commentary on the air since the 1980′s.  (Hello, “femi-nazis”, “Obama the magic negro”??) His recent verbal attacks on Sandra Fluke are just one more incidence in a long list of racist and misogynistic comments made over the last couple of decades.   Continue reading

Democratic Party, speak up on women’s issues!

They say we get the government we deserve, but this is ridiculous!  Decision 2012 has been a polarizing year for politics, with the long battle for the Republican nomination dominating the American media.  The Supreme Court has allowed those with enough money to run their own campaigns for the candidate of their choice, and you know that is going to have heinous repercussions. Continue reading
