FAA Inconvenience Leads Action, Unlike Impact To Vulnerable Americans

How’s the sequestration treating you?  Most may ask, ‘What Sequestration?’.  Alot of folks stopped paying attention to this sort of thing, due to fatigue, so it is understandable that they would not know.  It’s a state of broad departmental budget cuts to government programs and services.  We are gifted with this albatross because the last Congress could not pass a budget.  The doomsday scenarios the White House and some Democrats warned against haven’t happened.  Yet.

The country has not imploded yet, nor been invaded by a foreign entity.   Personally, I haven’t been affected at all by sequestration, which I think is indicative of the experience of most Americans, because I am self sufficient, I have no special needs that require federal aid.  Unless you need a service of any kind…..that you depend on to eat, take care of yourself and family, to educate children.  You know, nothing of real importance to the media, or the average Senator and Congressperson.  Like booking a flight home from Washington!

Awareness has grown, since plenty of Americans, particularly business travelers were highly inconvenienced this week, as indicated by this article:  FAA Leads Sequestration Coverage Despite Impact To Vulnerable CommunitiesContinue reading

Hugo Chavez vs “The Network” By Greg Palast

You kids know I’m a sharing kind of gal.  But heck, I’ve been super busy these last few weeks, and so been remiss in posting this nugget from my inbox.  I have been a bad, bad, girl!

But no worries, I have posted the whole email in its entirety for you.  I really hope I run across Mr. Palast in the city one of these fine days.  Enjoy, and you can always sign up for your own alerts.

Hugo Chavez vs “The Network”
By Greg Palast for Vice Magazine
Thursday, March 14, 2013London, February 2002. A tiny, dark and intense woman waited at the end of a lecture until I was alone, brought her face strangely close to mine and whispered, “President Chavez needs you. Right now. To Caracas. Right now. You must come to see him.”

President Who? All I knew about this Hugo Chavez guy was that he was an Latin-American jefe, led a bungled coup and was filled with a lot of populist bullshit and a lot of oil. Continue reading

Jerry From Ohio Has Something To Say

Many Americans are frustrated with elected officials who do the bidding of the NRA rather than what is right for the majority of Americans.  Our health and safety should not come second to NRA’s goal to sell guns as fast as they can.  No more!

One man puts his feelings out there for all to hear, and gives voice to the opinion of quite a few of us.
If you feel the same as this hearty soul from the great state of Ohio, then share the living hell out of this video!

Fiscal Cliff: Crisis Delayed

So, most of us were relieved that there was news of a compromise reached in Washington, that a bandage was slapped on to the mess our nation’s finances are in.

For most of the United States, 2012 has been a difficult and challenging year, replete with extreme weather phenomena, tragic losses of life, and one of the most polarizing elections of modern times, so I understand why the average American just wants to move on.  We are weary.  We’ve all had enough uncertainty, we need to be able to spend without worrying as much for awhile.  Our economy depends on it.

The new legislation keeps the Bush era tax cuts for persons making less than $400,000 and couples making less that $450,000.  It also makes permanent the fixes for the Alternative Minimum Tax and delays government spending cuts for two months.  Continue reading

Global War on Women

You remember the underlying theme of the abortion obsessed GOP this past election cycle?  You know, the same tired anti woman crap that resulted in less Republicans in Congress and the Senate?  Well, you should know, that same sort of anti woman world view affects women adversely, all over the world.

Government policies in many countries across the globe deny women their basic rights.  Women jailed for having the gall to try to control their bodies, for not choosing to give birth.   Women held hostage for the crime of giving birth while poor.  Women and children treated worse than unwanted animals. A Year in Jail for Not Stating the Power of God?

I had a hard time believing this article was for real.  I mean, we live in America, where we believe in freedom and justice.  We have separation of church and state…right?  The Department of Homeland Security needs to have its checkbook confiscated!!
A Year in Jail for Not Stating the Power of God? How Kentucky Office of Homeland Security May Be Violating the Separation of Church and State
In Kentucky, a law requires the state’s Office of Homeland Security to post a plaque recognizing the power of the Almighty God–and violating this law could result in 12 months in prison.
The law and its sponsor, state representative Tom Riner, have been the subject of controversy since the law first surfaced in 2006, yet the Kentucky state Supreme Court has refused to review its constitutionality, despite clearly violating the First Amendment’s separation of church and state.  Read More:A Year in Jail for Not Stating the Power of God? Christian Right For Death Sentences?

I found this article a few days ago on the interwebs, and I really wondered at the disconnect between the homophobic hate peddled by Tony Perkins, and the love and tolerance that Christians claim is found in their religion and its practitioners.  You have to wonder where this hysterical reaction really comes from, don’t you?

Christian Right Leader Lauds Uganda Dictator as ‘Kill the Gays’ Bill Is Revived
Tony Perkins goes out of his way to ensure that the Family Research Council deserves its hate-group designation.
December 5, 2012 |

In the past week the Family Research Council has been busy praising Uganda’s commitment to Christian faith and “national repentance” — even as the Ugandan Parliament once again takes up a bill that would legally mandate the persecution of LGBT people. The bill appears to be part and parcel of dictator Yoweri Museveni’s “repentance” program, and its reappearance before the legislature has drawn no criticism from FRC or the other Christian right groups allied with the dictator.  Read More:Christian Right Leader Lauds Uganda Dictator as ‘Kill the Gays’ Bill Is Revived | Alternet.

Say No To Grover

Once again, the country is held hostage, all because of a pledge given to a humorless minion of the super rich.  Which is exactly the reason to not stop applying pressure, even if the election is over!  Not as fun as the “kick Grover Norquist in the dick” petition, but I think its well worth signing!  Had to share with you, Kids!

Cecelia –

Grover Norquist’s iron grip on Republicans in Congress is so strong that they’re afraid to raise taxes on billionaires even one red cent.

But now some Republicans claim they’re coming to their senses about Grover and his anti-tax pledge. If you agree that it’s time to stop protecting tax cuts for the rich, then sign our petition to Boehner, Cantor and the Republicans.
