Last Minute Voting Directives In Ohio

Below is an email from Ohio State Representative Mike Foley and Cleveland native Nina Hart. Rep. Foley and Nina started a petition on SignOn.org, the nonprofit site that allows anyone to start their own online petition.

Dear MoveOn member,

In a last-minute directive issued Friday night that could disenfranchise thousands of Ohioans and tip the outcome of the election, Republican Secretary of State Jon Husted changed requirements for submitting provisional ballots on Election Day.  Continue reading

Truth and Beauty: Romney-Ryan’s Road to Perdition

From Truth and Beauty: Romney-Ryan’s Road to Perdition:  “…it was Republican policies during the Bush administration that brought on the sickness and Republicans in Congress who have denied the economy an adequate dosage of the cure. Now they want to implicitly blame President Obama for causing the recession and the failure of stimulus to fix the problem, asserting that fiscal stimulus is per se ineffective.

There is a word for this: chutzpah.”

International Monitors- How Has It Come To This?

You may want to take a look at this email I received from Chris Bowers at Daily Kos, kids.  It contains some unsettling news, and makes me wonder what the international community thinks about the tactics used by Republican and Democratic parties during this election year.

Cecelia,

Republican attempts to reduce voter turnout in minority neighborhoods are so widespread that, at the request of American civil rights groups, international monitors will oversee our elections: Continue reading

Are you registered to vote?

From my Inbox, we are prompted to ask ourselves, am I registered to vote? Don’t leave it till the last moment if you are not 100% positive, and check out online options if you are too busy or if your schedule precludes going to a physical office to register.  MoveOn provides some helpful information, please share with anyone who needs a friendly reminder to register to vote.

Dear MoveOn member,

Are you registered to vote? Are you sure? Are all your friends and family registered voters?

I hope so, because Mitt Romney and the rest of the Republicans are doing everything they can to STOP people from voting. In some states they’re using discriminatory voter suppression laws, in some they’re flooding airwaves with deceptive negative ads—but the goal is the same. They know that a low turnout election is their surest path to victory. Continue reading

August 18th, 1920–Women’s Suffrage ratified

August 18th, 1920–Women’s Suffrage ratified 92 years ago today! Please take a moment to reflect on the years long struggles the women of 1920 went through to garner this sacred right that we enjoy today.  Imagine what life would be like without full citizenship.  Then imagine the joy the Suffragettes felt as their dream came to pass.  Please resolve to not allow any political group to push women back from any hard won rights to live our lives in pursuit of OUR happiness and liberty. Finally, a Case of Voter Fraud

Check out the link to a WGBH article on voter fraud, but not the kind of fraud that the right leaning folks say you need valid ID laws to prevent.  I think we can tell what that is really all about.  And now a serious case of fraud in Massachusetts, during a tight local race.  How do we prevent clerks from switching party affiliation of voters from Democrat to Republican, and then cast ballots on their behalf?  Galvin Calls Voter Fraud Allegations ‘Pretty Extreme’ | WGBH News.
