Linda McMahon Spent $100 Million to Lose Twice

The race for Joe Lieberman’s Senate seat was a big deal here in the Tri-State area!  Linda’s ads during Good Morning America.  Linda’s ads during the mid day news.  Linda’s ads during our nightly news.  We were so literally deluged with Linda McMahon campaign ads, we would have rather watched wresting!   She probably lost not for siding with the union busting Republican Mitt Romney, but for really annoying us morning, noon, and night!

Let’s indulge in a little grave dancing, shall we?  I found this neat little article on Mother Jones by .

Linda_McMahonOn the last day of her campaign, Linda McMahon got desperate. The former wrestling exec and GOP senate candidate in Connecticut, who has sunk at least $42.6 million into her latest campaign, engaged in a series of misleading tricks that seemed intended to dupe voters into believing she was a Democrat. The Agony and the Ecstasy of President Obama’s New Term

I woke this morning to the good news.  President Obama had one a hard fought, long battle to stay in the White House for four more years.  I cannot stay up late, I have to man my post at work very early, so the news came as a pleasant start to my day.

As someone who believes in good sportsmanship, I refrained from crowing my pleasure, only giving in to one positive tweet:

ceceliamorgan Woke up to my preferred president! Color me optimistic!

After all the ups and downs, dog-whistles, and ridiculousness of the GOP Primary, and horribly divisive Romney campaign filled with fact averse statements, and the most pumped up media coverage of a presidential race to date, America chose to stay the course. Continue reading

Calling Senior voters with common sense

Dear Senior voter,

Many Americans a mite younger than you have always looked to your example when making important decisions, like choosing a president.  As someone who spent a good portion of her youth working in nursing homes, caring for the elderly, I know for a fact that older Americans are a veritable treasure trove of knowledge and history.  So will you please stop losing your damn minds over the same stale, old, wedge issues trotted out at election time: abortion, contraception and gay marriage! Democratic Party, speak up on women’s issues!

They say we get the government we deserve, but this is ridiculous!  Decision 2012 has been a polarizing year for politics, with the long battle for the Republican nomination dominating the American media.  The Supreme Court has allowed those with enough money to run their own campaigns for the candidate of their choice, and you know that is going to have heinous repercussions. GOP pandering to the right will cost women voters

Women still constitute over half of the US population.  And we do vote.  So, when you consider the flurry of ‘Personhood’ bills popping up in southern states, coupled with all the Pro-life rhetoric disguised as conservatism spouted by GOP candidates, one has to wonder….. Continue reading

Virginian women’s rights undermined, or, Virginia, on my mind (and in other places!)

Aside from a bill that defines personhood at conception and bans some methods of contraception(very close in tone to the recent bill passed by the Oklahoma Senate), the Virginia House of Delegates also passed a preliminary measure, sponsored by Republican Delegate Kathy J. Byron, requiring a woman to receive an ultrasound before having an abortion.  Continue reading

Oh, Oklahoma! Personhood Act bans abortion

Come November 2012, Oklahoman women can enjoy no reproductive rights at all in another mind boggling, insane attack from the religious right against women’s rights.  As well as the pronouncement that “Life begins at conception” SB 1433 takes away the rights of women over their own bodies, and confers rights of existing human beings to those who don’t exist yet.  Here are some highlights and the link to the brand new “Personhood Act”, SB 1433:  Continue reading
