Unsubstantiated crazy talk is now accepted and tolerated in the media and our social interactions.  You can literally pull any claim out of thin air and be believed by quite a few people.  Facts haven’t mattered for quite some time. Many people behave as if the election of the President of the United States is a contact sport or a blood sport even. The debates have also illustrated a willingness to twist reality to suit your world view.  Calling out a lie is “bullying“.  Standing up for oneself against criticism, or demanding facts to back up assertions is considered rude.  But keeping calm and trying to have a polite and rational debate is seen as weak.  Even our beloved Muppets get dragged into the contentiousness over and again!  So what on Earth can we do?
